Jude Smith

“I became a teacher because I believe education is freedom. I have encountered many children who, born into tumultuous circumstances, are simply unable to access education. As these children grow up they are expected to navigate the world in the same way as their educated peers. Yet they are ill-equipped to do so. RADICAL RECRUIT'S work begins where mine fails. It empowers, equips and enables people to navigate the world of work and reclaim their place in society. I am privileged to be part of this revolution..

Jude Smith

Co-Founder

During her time as a Teacher Aide, Jude realised that the Victorian education system catered to a ‘one size fits all’ paradigm which meant any child who was considered ‘other’ such as those with disabilities, those from ‘broken homes’ or those labelled ‘naughty’, were unable to benefit from education in the same way as their counterparts. This disgusted Jude and propelled her to act. As a teacher aide Jude was powerless, so she decided to become a teacher and effect change from within.

Five years later, in 2009, Jude completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Postgraduate Teaching degrees and has been teaching ever since. Initially she worked in secondary schools, in the Eastern Suburbs, as an English Teacher before relocating to the beautiful West Coast of New Zealand where she currently works as an Assistant Principal, teaching Year 5/6 students at a small school in Hokitika.
